Hierarchy
James Islington’s Hierarchy follows Vis through an elite academy and a society where power flows from the many to the few. Start with The Will of the Many, then continue with The Strength of the Few.
Cory’s perspective
I’ve finished The Will of the Many. I liked Vis, the academy, and the way the Will system makes exploitation part of the magic. Some of the story moved too quickly for me, but the ending left me wondering where the next book would go.
Where to begin
Start with The Will of the Many, then read The Strength of the Few. This is an ongoing series; the first book’s review is available below, and the second book has not yet been reviewed here.

The Justice of One is the announced third book. As of September 2026, it is still in progress; no publication date is confirmed in the author’s update.
