Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller Chronicle follows Kvothe’s life, music, magic, and growing reputation. Read The Name of the Wind, then The Wise Man’s Fear. Both reviews are available below; The Doors of Stone is not yet reviewed.
I got hooked on The Name of the Wind about a quarter of the way in. Once that happened, I wanted to keep following Kvothe’s story. The first two books are a big part of why I’m still waiting for the third after all this time.
The series follows Kvothe, a man with a reputation that has grown into legend. But when we meet him, he’s running an inn under another name. He starts telling his life story, and we get to see how a kid from a traveling troupe became somebody people tell stories about.
There’s magic, music, friendship, and a lot of trouble that Kvothe probably could have avoided by keeping his mouth shut. The mystery behind his past keeps pulling everything along.
Start with The Name of the Wind, then The Wise Man’s Fear. These reviews cover those two main novels. The Doors of Stone is the third book we’re waiting for—and at this point I may need someone to recap the first two and hand me my reading glasses when it gets here.
